Sunshine and zodiac tours watching transient Orcas - what a perfect start to this Sunday!
June 10th, 2012 Afternoon Tour
This evening, we headed out on the Orca Spirit with guests from the Disney Wonder. With reports of whales south of Discovery Island, we left the harbor hopeful and excited, eager to show our guests the wondrous animal that is the killer whale. About half an hour after leaving the harbor, we were still looking, but as our Captain slowed the boat when we were "in the zone", we spotted our first orcas. The next hour would be amazing, as we witnessed some incredible behaviours from a large group of J-pod females, juvenile males and calves. Spyhops, cartwheels, tail slaps, and several breaches were witnessed by our guests in what was a wonderful wildlife experience. We identified several J-pod whales, including J19 (Shachi) and J41 (Eclipse), and had a wonderful encounter with a group of whales that included J28 (Polaris) and J35 (Tahlequah). As always, it was a tremendous pleasure to show our guests orcas in their native habitat. We headed back to the harbor, thrilled with another stellar trip on the Salish Sea.
