Sunshine and zodiac tours watching transient Orcas - what a perfect start to this Sunday!
June 26, 2011
What a beautiful morning! With our first calm day in a few weeks, we set out of the Victoria Harbour with great spirits. We had heard that some resident orca were out near Stuart Island, so with our small yet wonderful group, we made our way past Discovery Island and up Haro Straight. As we approached Turn Point we found members of J-pod and K-pod. The whales were tightly moving together in small groups at a casual pace, which suggests that they were in a state of resting. With the sun shining and the water being so calm, the guests were able to get some really great shots of a male, his mother, and a few of his siblings. Just before we left, J-pod started to head east through Boundary Pass, so we said our goodbye’s and made our way back to Victoria. We stopped in Haro Straight where there were a number of Harbour Porpoise showing off for us. It was such a beautiful trip with great people! Another successful adventure!
